ETHNIC PLUS GOLD

After my return from Portugal (here, here and here) I still have a couple of days left before I will return to work. That means I am still on vacation - even it's home and in my own garden!

Besides wonderful tours and sightseeing in Portugal I couldn't resist some great shopping opportunities and discovered this ethnic inspired dress at Sfera, a Spanish brand. Unfortunately they don't have an online shop yet but they are expanding.
The relatively short length is a bit out of my normal comfort zone but on a nice day and maybe with a bit more suntanned legs...? What do you think?
And even braver - I paired the dress with my highest platform sandals which are surprisingly comfortable!

NOT LIKE A TOURIST - RED AND BLACK

ÓBIDOS

Another unique location I have visited during my stay in Portugal:
The preserved medieval village of Óbidos, 80 km north of Lisbon is one of Portugal's most interesting and picturesque walled towns with narrow lanes, museums, lovely restaurants and arts & craft shops. Don't miss the local Ginja de Óbidos, a very tasty cherry liqueur served in tiny chocolate cups!
I strongly recommend staying at the gorgeous Pousada Castelo de Óbidos - the historical castle transformed into a hotel.

It is not a cliché but the truth: Why do tourists dress in their typical look which almost screams out "Look at me - I am a tourist"?
Women with spaghetti tops and shorts no matter what age and size? Just because you are on holidays?
I am not talking about a day at the beach but for a visit to a cultural site, a cathedral or a city I prefer a light dress and have a cardigan or a big scarf handy to cover up if necessary.
Ok, I admit I didn't climb the paths in these sandals but I was wearing nude ballerinas;-)

BLACK IS BACK AGAIN

BLACK IS BACK AGAIN

Ready for going out to a wine tasting event on the countryside of Portugal where we spent a fabulous time at Quinta da Santa Cruz, a lovely family owned rural retreat with a fantastic view over the Rio Douro.

We started with half dry white Porto as an aperitif, followed by two white and two red Douro wines and finished with an old vintage Porto which is the highest quality level. Interesting to know that all of them have been made and blended of unique Portuguese grapes.

I am wearing a black stretch wrap dress from Wallis which is perfect for an evening out while travelling! Easy match with black sandals and a clutch.

:::::

BOM DIA DE PORTUGAL - BLUE PAISLEY

Bom dia de Portugal!

What comes to your mind when you think of this beautiful country?
I am exploring Portugal. Mr C showed me his Lisbon, we have been to Cascais, Estoril and Sintra; currently we are spending a couple of days in Porto and the rural countryside where these photos have been taken.

I am pairing my Old Navy paisley dress with a white MANGO blazer and new sandals from a Portuguese brand which I bought in Lisbon. They are really comfortable as you cannot wear high heels on the traditional beautiful cobblestone pavements here! Needless to say I could have shopped their entire collection...

On a different note:
I have been very touched by all your amazing comments here on my blog as well as on Wardrobe Oxygen regarding my interview last week.
When I started Lady of Style in January I really wasn't sure about blogging at my age but with all your support I know I am going into the right direction and there is definitely space and demand for us 40, 50 or above bloggers!
Thank you so much.

:::::

Danke Euch allen!

TRUE FASHIONISTA ON WARDROBE OXYGEN

When Alison Gary of Wardrobe Oxygen asked me whether I would answer some questions about my style and blog for her True Fashionista series I was delighted.

I am truly honoured being featured on her fabulous blog today!

True Fashionista: Annette

I often hear conversations in the blogosphere that one cannot be a certain age and be a personal style blogger. What does a blogger do once she hits 35? As a personal style blogger who is closer to 40 than 30, I feel it’s even more important to showcase your personal style when you’re older. Women have plenty of resources for fashion when younger, be it magazines, TV shows, and yes blogs. But blogs – quality blogs with quality photos and quality style aren’t as easy to find when you’re over 40. So when I came across Annette’s relatively new blog, Lady of Style, I cheered hooray!

About Wardrobe Oxygen

Wardrobe Oxygen was created in 2005 – Alison Gary realized after her experience in personal shopping that there are a few wardrobe basics that seem to work on any woman, be she a size 2 or 22, 21 or 71. Alison has been a size 4 and size 18, and has also seen that through any size, certain wardrobe basics always worked with her frame. From this she created her list of What Every Woman Needs in Her Wardrobe. From this list, she created Wardrobe Oxygen, where she regularly provides style, beauty, and fashion advice. To show that personal style can be achieved regardless of budget, body, or lifestyle, Alison also posts her daily fashion choices and information on why she chose certain brands and how she got her look for less.

GOLD MEETS BEIGE

After some more colourful, floral and black & white themes, I am going for a different style today.
I love this feminine wrap dress - its lovely cleavage, comfortable 3/4 sleeves and the silky stretch material make it even better.

To enhance the elegant look I added some golden jewellery and for a bit of a contrast my new metallic band clutch from MANGO.

Drum roll please!

For once I don't care about the local weather forecast because on Thursday I will escape to Lisbon for 1,5 weeks. I will try to post during my leave, will keep you updated via Facebook and I will certainly bring back lots of photos and great Portuguese impressions!

:::::
